Baikonur (Байконур)
Formerly known as Leninsk, a city in Kyzylorda Province of Kazakhstan, leased and administered by the Russian Federation. It was constructed to service the Baikonur Cosmodrome and was officially renamed Baikonur by president Yeltsin in December 1995.

The shape of the area rented is an ellipse, measuring 90 kilometres east to west, by 85 kilometres north to south, with the cosmodrome at the centre. Baikonur cosmodrome is the Russian counterpart of US NASA Cape Canaveral. SInce the deactivation of the US spaceshutlles all manned fights to the international space station (often with European or US crews) have been launched from here, However the first experimental commercial spaceflights from the US already have been launched!
