40°43'35"N 73°35'45"W Former USAF Mitchel airbase a.k.a. Mitchel Field was a WW2 base under Air Defense Command, in 1946 becoming ADC Hq. and in 1947 when USAF was established it became Mitchel Airbase.
In 1948, ADC's responsibilities were temporarily taken over by Continental Air Command, (ConAC) also located at Mitchel airbase. .
US Army Anti-Aircraft Command moved to Mitchel airbase in 1950.
After the new Air Defense Command establishment in 1951 its Hq moved to another location and Mitchel airbase remained under ConAC until closure in 1961.
Former Mitchel airbase was demolised and rebuilt into a multifunctional complex.
