The Turner Air Defense area was established when USAF Strategic Air Command based B-52 Stratofortress intercontinental bombers at Turner AFB in 1958. The 2 Nike-Hercules batteries provided air defense and were manned by Regular Army units. The above-ground sites remained active until 1974.

  1. T-28 Sylvester. IFC at 31 33′ 16″ N, 83 54′ 56″ W, LA at 31 33′ 23″ N, 83 54′ 18″ W
  2. T-79 Albany. IFC at 31 38′ 0″ N, 84 15′ 24″ W (drug & alcohol rehab center), LA at 31 37′ 50″ N, 84 16′ 42″ W (overbuilt)
