- Sector Ops Control Center (SOCCS) Eastern Air Defense Sector (EADS) http://www.eads.ang.af.mil/ is responsible to the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the Continental NORAD Region for peacetime air sovereignty, strategic air defense and airborne counter-drug operations in the continental US.
EADS is a New York ANG unit under command of and reporting directly to First Air Force (Air Forces Northern) at Tyndall airbase, Florida. The sector reports to Air Combat Command (ACC) and to NORAD Hq, in Colorado Springs. SOCC employs 27 NORAD contingency suites and 31 Battle Control System-Fixed (BCS-F) displays FYQ-156 equipment replaced the 1980s era displays and processors, the GSQ-235, ROCC - Airborne Warning and Control System Digital Information Link (RADIL), the FYQ-155, Advanced Interface Control Unit (AICU), and the NORAD Contingency Suite (NCS). While each of the 2 remaining mainland sectors is assigned about half the county as an area of operations it is possible for either sector to assume control of the whole country. Release R3-3 increased system capacity to 15,000 system tracks in support of the single sector continental US operations.
