Narvik was captured after fierce fighting in April and May 1940, that cost both sides heavily especially the Germans.
Just before the fall of France during the fall of 1944 a great number of U-boats were moved from their French bases to Norway.
Narvik was base for 14 Unterseeboots Flotille from december 1944 until may 1945. 14 UF operated the remaining VIIC and VIIC41 U-boat types.
