Former Criggion radio http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/22212893.jpg was a transmitter site operated by the MoD, constructed in WW2 as a back-up for Rugby radio. Operating on 19.6kHz (callsign GBZ), the station was used for sending VLF traffic messages to submarines until closing in 2003.
Criggion's VLF antenna was hung from 3 free-standing steel lattice towers, 2 guyed masts and a rock anchor.
Towers and masts were demolished in 2003 but the derelict main transmitting building survived 2011
Criggons task is now carried out by Anthorn radio.
