In the Cold War era (1960-1970) the US Army together with AT&T built many AUTOVON blast resistant communications relay statons over the continent..
These sites were mostly located at mountain tops far away from metropolitan areas and also served as nuclear blast detectors for COG and NORAD officials in their command posts to determine where the U.S had been struck in case of WW3.
5 of these sites had a high classifiedl status. They were located at Hagerstown, Maryland; Leesburg, Virginia; at Shoirt Hill Mtn, Buckingham, Virginia; at Spears Mtn, and Peters Mtn Charlottesville and Pittsboro, North Carolina.
.
This one is Leesburg 5. The underground Army/AT&T TropoSctatter (Autovon) comms facility at Shorthill Mtn.3916'1"N 7742'24"W
