Dolon (a.k.a. Chagan and Semipalitinsk) was a major Soviet bomberbase. In 1955 it was 1 of 6 bases capable of handling the Myasishchev M-4 bomber.
The Tupolev Tu-160 (Blackjack) was temporarily deployed to Dolon in the late 1980s.Former units based:
1223 Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment (TBAP) flying Tu-95 aircraft starting in 1957 and Tu-95MS aircraft around 1983.
1226 Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment (TBAP) flying Tu-95 aircraft in the 1970s and flying Tu-95MS aircraft by 1985.
In 1990 Dolon had 40 Tupolev Tu-95 (Bear) aircraft, which were eliminated by 1994, ending the base's strategic bomber role.
Nowadays the airfield is being used by commercial freight aircraft.

Note: due south of the airfield is Dolon satellite airfield at grid 5015'15"N 79 3'47"E which had been used as a bomber parking area.
This airfield has been demolished
