This was the US Army Patriot AD missile site Ockstadt. Closed 1993.
From 1962-1981 it was a US Army Hawk AD missile site covering nearby Ockstadt Army Airfield a.k.a. Friedberg Army Airfield located at 50°20'3"N 8°44'21"E. The AAF was built by the US Army in the early 1950s. It became disused in the late 1970s and was closed 1991.
Former units: 4th Infantry Division - Air section RHQ Companies of the 8th Infantry Regiment and its 29th Field Artillery and the 22nd Infantry Regiment and its 44th Field Artillery. Operating H-13 helicopters and L-19 airplanes. Servicemen of the 8th and 29th were stationed at Ayers Barracks. Soldiers of the 22nd and 44th were stationed in Kirchgoens but were TDY to the Ayers Barracks and the AAF..
