Current Pärnu Mil/Civ airfield was a former Soviet airbase on which interceptor aircraft were detached, operated by 366 IAP (366th Interceptor Aviation Regiment) and 655 IAP (655th Interceptor Aviation Regiment) operating MiG-23's from 1970-1990 and Aeroflot AN-2 planes.
In summer of 1992, the re-constituted Estonian defence ministry took over the airbase and reassigned it as a joint mil/civ airfield.
