1956. Ops with F-84F Thunderstreaks ; 1960. Starting permanent nuclear Quick Reaction Alert phase ; 1964. Conversion F-104G Starfighters; 1973-1975. Hardened facilities constructed on base.1981 - current. F-16A Falcon in.dual role
Nuc status as of 1992: 26 on base Protective Aircraft Shelters. 11 of which are equipped with WS3 nuc weapon vaults (max.capacity = 44 weapons).
Prior to that, all bombs (B43 and early B61 types) were stored in an off-base Weapons Storage Area at grid 51°11'22"N 5°28'43"E. Former QRA with 4 aircraft armed and ready at grid 51°10'40"N 5°28'58"E (US Nuclear Weapons in Europe. A revision of post-Cold War policy, force levels, and war planning May 2012).

The base is hosting USAF 701 Munitions Support Sq supporting the Fighter/Bomber Wing in case of war and responsible of receiving, storage, maintenance, custody and control of USAF special weapons until the authorized release message. The unit strength is appx 140 personnel divided into a staff and 5 flights.
