RAF Faldingworth; an airfield used by RAF Bomber Command during and after WW2.
After the war the base was first used for conventional ammostorage but later on it was converted into a special weapons storage (1957) for the Thor IRBM warheads. It became the home of RAF 92 Maintenance Unit (92MU) which was responsible for peacetime storage of the W-49 warheads which had a yield of 1.44-megatons and weighed 1680-lbs. After phasing out of the Thor IRBM's the site was used to store the nucelar bombs of the V-bomber force based at Scampton until 1968. The base closed 1972, has been sold and is currently private property.
