Former RAF Breighton; WW2 airbase; later converted into a missilebase. See Driffield for further information about the Thor missile systen.
This was III Strategic Missile Group - 240 Strategic Misslile Squadron (Alpha 5) which was operational 1959 - 1963.
The 3 old Thor IRBM launchers are on the left side of this point.
Breighton also served in the airdefence missile role; there are 8 old Bloodhound SAM facilities on the right side of this point used by 21 AD wing 112 Sqn 1959-1965.
