US Hawk Missile Site, Annerod - Giessen, Germany

Die Hohe Warte site location became an active HAWK site around the time President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. It was A Btry, 6th Missile Battalion, 517th Artillery. The site was re-flagged on 09/01/1971 and became A Btry 2nd Battalion, 2nd ADA. It went Improved Hawk in November of 1972. On 08/05/1982 this old missile site was inaugurated to be the first Patriot missile site in Europe . It became operational in March of 1985 under the 4th Bn, 3rd ADA and was known as Patriot-Stellung Hohe Warte. In 1991 this Patriot unit (now flagged 4th Bn, 43rd ADA) went to the first Gulf War and then didn't return back to the site. The unit went directly to Fort Bliss when it left the gulf. Die Hohe Warte was never used as a missile site again.
