Former Ambri Piotta airbase. A small (reduit) airbase built 1941 and oficially deactivated 1996.
Former Swiss Fliegerstaffel 8 operating C35 - Morane - Messerschmitt Me 109 - Mustang - Vampire DH100 - Venom DH 112 and later Hunter MK58.
Until deactivation this base hosted 18 Hawker Hunter aircraft (3 Sq) which were stored inside the mountainridge at the northside of the runway.
This was the first "flugzeugkaverne" in the 1950's and still exists but is now used for military materiel storage.
