Former Ambri Piotta airbase (ICAO: LSPM) was a small airbase built 1941 which was oficially deactivated 1996.
It hosted former Swiss Fliegerstaffel 8 operating C35 - Morane - Messerschmitt Me 109 - Mustang - Vampire DH100 - Venom DH 112 and later Hunter MK58.
Until deactivation this base hosted 18 Hawker Hunter aircraft (3 Sqn) which were stored inside the mountainridge at the N side of the runway.
This facility was the first "flugzeugkaverne" in the 1950's and still exists but is now used for military materiel storage.
Currently Ambri civil airport.
