Built before WW2 by US Army AIr Corps. Seized by the Japanese in WW2 and recaptured by US and Phil forces at the end of WW2..

Currentl units:
- 5th Airwing responsible for air defense and interdiction. with
-- 7 Tac Sq operating KAI FA-50PH
-- 105 Tac Training Sq operating Aermacchi S-211

As of 2009, Basa Airfield housed the Air Defense Wing Hq, the 5th Fighter Group, and the 355th Aviation Engineering Wing, along with the 1302nd Dental Dispensary. The Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Plan called for the procurement of a fighter aircraft replacement by 2012, which would be based at Basa Airfield.

Since 2016 the USAF again makes partial use of the base with some detachments being stationed there.This measure was agreed as part of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA)
