32°30'6"N 93°39'25"W Barksdale airbase, LA http://www.barksdale.af.mil/ became ops 1942 and was after WW2 home of many former Strategic Air Command bomberwings. Its Weapon Storage Area at grid 32°30'15"N 93°38'38"W (former Bossier base) became ops 1951 and stored many types of nuclear gravity weapons ever since. After a period of deactivation (1992-2004) it has been upgraded and reactivated in 2005.
Barksdale currently:
- Hq 8 Air Force with 2nd Bomb (host) Wing with 11, 20 and 96 Bomb Sqns (11 Bomb (training) Sq for active and AFRC crews and 20 and 96 Bomb Sqns operating worldwide)
- Hq Air Force Global Strike Command (AFGSC) / AFSTRAT-AIR http://www.afgsc.af.mil/ providing strategic deterrence, nuclear and conventional global strike and combat support. This is a 4 star general command responsible for all ICBM wings, the entire bomber force, the Air Force Nuclear Command, Control and Communications (NC3) systems and operational and maintenance support within the nuclear enterprise.
- 608th Air Operations Center. (under STRATCOM/AFGSC cmd) Tasking: Command and control of all long-range strike missions.
- USAF Nuclear Command, Control and Communications Center (USAF NC3 Center)
