Vaerlose (ICAO: EKVL) is located northwest of Copenhagen, only about 20kms from the city centre. It was originally constructed as an army camp in 1910 and rebuild as a military airfield in the 1930s. After WW2 Danish Air force operations resumed, principally with transport aircraft. It became the main Naval Aviation base in 1962. In 2004 the Danish government closed Vaerlose as a military base. Handed over to civilian authorities in 2008.
