Fort Mutzig is divided in 2 parts; the first part is known as Quartier Moussy, homebase of the 44e régiment de transmissions (44th Comms Regt).
The 44th Comms Regt tasking is Electronic Warfare and the unit is specialized in detection, interception, localisation, analysis and identification of electronic transmissions.
No wonder that the second part of Fort Mutzig also hosts a SIGINT facility which in fact is one of the many intercept stations in the Echelon chain!
