SIGINT Domme

The 'Frenchelon' SIGINT site near Domme is operated by French armed forces and Direction Générale de la Sécurité Extérieure (Secret Service) personnel.
Station opened 1974 as France’s first SATCOM intercept station.
At the time, it was a small station, with a single 25m parabolic antenna but more antennas followed.
In the early 1980s, the Domme SATCOM intercept station was too small and unadequate equipped to handle the proliferating amount of communications passing through the growing number of international communications satellites in orbit over the Earth.
This lead to a rapid expansion of the station in the 1980s and 1990s.
