Holworthy; home of 'A' Field Battery.
The oldest continuous serving unit in the Australian Regular Army and also the only Parachute Battery.
In 1972 - after merging of regiments - A Field Battery became a sub-unit of 8th/12th Medium Regiment RAA at Holsworthy.
In 1987 after further restructuring within the Army, A Field Battery assumed the parachute role as part of the recently designated Parachute Battalion Group based on the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment.
In 2000, A Field Battery became the 3rd battery of the Townsville-based 4th Field Regiment RAA, however the Battery remained at Holsworthy.
The Battery deployed to East Timor in 1999, 2002 and more recently in 2006. Its personnel have also served in recent conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
