Former NATO nuc storage Riedheim was a CENTAG J-type storage under 512th US Army Arty Grp / 510th Ord Co Günzburg.
512th arrived 1962 assigned to Specl Ammo Suppt Cmd (SASCOM).
Initial position at termporary SAS Urlau at grid 47°47'17"N 10° 4'3"E containing nuc Honest John warheads and 8" grenades (1961-1965). Then relocated to Prinz Eugen Barracks Günzburg at grid 48°28'16"N 10°16'52"E from 1965-1992 until closure.
510th Ord Co was responsible for Riedheim site supervision and the inner site security. Outer perimeter was for GE infantry. At the same time it took over SAS Riedheim containing nuc HJ (1965-1978) and Lance warheads (1978-1992).
Disclosure came when all Lance warheads were transported out by trucks with minimal security; they appeared to be decoys! ( © 2016 H. Kristensen: State of the nuclear danger )
