Nike became ops in Denmark as of 1960. After training at Ft Bliss the Danish units moved to Denmark.
They consisted of a staff and 4 batteries, originally the batteries were under Army command (10. Luftværnsafdeling) but in 1962 they reroled to the Airforce as Squadrons 531 - 532 - 533 - 534. Their main task was to defend Copenhagen with Nike Ajax and later Hercules missiles.
Nike system was ops in Denmark from 1960-1983 being replaced by the IHawk system
All Nike units were operating in a conventional role as Denmark refused being responsible for stationing nuclear operating units.
Its (Airforce) Nilke and (Army) Honest John units however had a nuclear capacity. Only the warheads were stored just over the border in Germany!
