The Air Defense in the European theater (W-Germany) was controlled by the US Air Force.
W-German air defense (then Nike and Hawk missiles) was carried out by NATO and US Air Defense Artillery (Army) units.
USAF operated the 412L Air Weapons Control System in the 4 ATAF sector from the late 1960’s until the early 1980’s.
The 412Lima system comprised a number of Missile Control Centers (MCC’s), in fact the USAF equivalent for Army Air Defense Command Posts (AADCP) located at Freising, Börfink, Giebelstadt, Lauda, Langerkopf and Wasserkuppe.
Each MCC controlled all air defense units (mostly a number of Nike and/or Hawk battalions and incidentally some Chapparal/Vulcan units) in its own sector.
