Historical: the barracks has been used by various US Army units. Amongst others:
- Hq Advanced Weapons Cmd,
- 59th Ord Ammo Grp,
In 1962, the 59th Grp was activated in Germany as HHC, 59th Ordnance Group (Ammunition). Later that redesignated 59th Ord Grp, Advanced Weapons Support Command. AWSCOM and former Special Ammunition Support Command (SASCOM) were merged to a NEW SASCOM in 1972. The new 59th Ord Grp moved to Pirmasens. In 1977, 59th Ord Grp (SASCOM) redesignated HHC 59th Ord Bde and deactivated 1992.
- PAL Detachment
In 1963 USAr Permissive Action Link Det was assigned to Europe. It had to implement PAL security devices for nuc weapons and was attached to AWSCOM for admin and log support. Prior to 1963, this unit was called US Army Control Det, US Army Surveillance Det and US Army PAL Surveillance Det. In 1970, the PAL Detachment was assigned to USAr Theater Support Command, Europe and attached to AWSCOM. In 1972 it was under control of Deputy Chief of Staff Operations USAREUR and in 1974 reassigned to 59th Ord Grp (SASCOM). Permissive Action Link Det was the only unit of its kind consisting of officers and NCO's only. PAL Det deactivated June 1992.
- 22nd Aviation Det (1965-1992) http://www.22ndaviationdetachment.com/ operated CH47D Chinooks and was tasked to airlift 'specials' and escorting security personnel to and from Special Ammo Storages throughout W.Germany. 22nd deactivated in 1992. The Army Airfield closed, was demolished and rebuilt as an Industrial park.
