Alice Springs a.k.a. the "Pine Gap" Satcom station.
A former satellite tracking station operated by both Australia (Australian Signal Directorate) and US consisting of a computer complex and 18 radomes protecting the dish antennas.
The site is in Australia officially called the Joint Defence Space Research Facility and it is believed to be one of the largest ECHELON ground stations; appears to be physically and operationally similar to the American SIGINT facilities at Buckley Airbase, Colorado and Menwith Hill, UK.
US government personnel at Pine Gap believed to be National Security Agency paygrade
Officially known in the USA as NAVDET Combined Suppt. Group, Pine Gap until 2005; then reassigned NAVIODET Alice Springs NT AS.
The facility has been upgraded from 2010-2014.
