Former USSR nuc tasked airbase Altenburg Nobitz (callsign: Proran) was used by interceptors first and later reroled into tactical fighterbombers. The base was subordinate to 61 GvIAK (Wittenberg) operating MiG-21s, 23s and 27s.
For immediate offensive action against NATO at the outbreak of a war, in the vincinity of most former offensive (nuc) tasked USSR airbases in E-Germany nuclear weapon storages were located like this one at, 50° 58' 19" N, 12° 32' 07" E. Well camouflaged in the woods at a distance of appx 2,5 kms from the base, consiting of Granite type mainbunkers holding 14 nuc TN-1000 free fall bombs each. The Granite type bunker was built of dirt covered curved concrete segments with overall length of 82 m and width of 44 m with 2 underground floors with the storage vaults, a loading dock, emergency powerunit, water and air purifying installations in the lowest floor.
