Former Spec Ammo Storage Flensburg-Meyn (1974-1992) was a LANDJUT main nuclear J-type storage for German 6th artillery command in case of WW3.
Site was a corpslevel SAS containing a mixed stock of nuclear 8"artillery grenades, Atomic Ddemolition Munitions, Sergeant, Honest John and Lance missile warheads for all units in the 6th Arty Cmd. Site supervision; 294th US Army Arty Grp / 99th Ordnance Det. Site security: 99th Ord det until 1977 after that 75th US Army Field Arty Det Perimeter security: GE Infantry
294th USAAG activated 1966 at Itzehoe, Germany as part of the 514th US. Army Artillery Grp.
Unit was located in the Von Fritsch Barracks at grid 53°53'49"N 9°30'4"E operating nuclear armed Sergeant missiles with German 650th Msl Arty Bn.
The temporary SAS for the Sergeant whds was at Bredstedt (grid 54°37'59"N 8°58'58"E) from 1966-1974. Then relocated from Itzehoe to the Von Briesen Barracks at grid 54°45'33"N 9°23'43"E at Flensburg-Weiche in 1974 and changing armament from Sergeant to Lance missile system until unit deactivation in 1992. The SAS was at Flensburg-Meyn.
