RAF Wethersfield (1942-1990) WW2 bomberbase. After the war accommodated to USAF status 1948-1951 and from 1952-1971 USAF 20 Fighter Bomber Wing operating F-84G and later F-100 Supersabre.1971-1975 USAF 66 Combat Suppt Sqn. 1976-1978 USAF 10th Tac Recon Wing Det. 1978-1989 USAF 819th Red Horse Sqn and 1990 back to RAF in caretaker status.
Base converted into
-Hq & training center Ministry of Defence Police http://www.mod.police.uk/
-- MoD Police Training School
-- Firearms Training Wing
-- Ops Suppt Unit.
In addition, Wethersfield became home to
- MoD Guard Service (MGS) Training School.
Gardiner Associates (fire investigation training provider), began providing residential fire investigation training courses at MDP Wethersfield in 2000.
Millbrook Engineering uses Wethersfield as "Extreme Manoeuvre Facility".
