Historical: Former airbase 200; 1st Strategic Missile Group 1967-1999. The 1 GMS was created 1967 in regards to nuclear deterrence
Base was located at the airbase St Christol and consisted of Staff, admin, logistics, recreation and housing area and a nuc storage site.
Security was by Helicopter sq 4/67 Durance (aerial patrols) and Protection sq 21.200 (4 companies air force security). SEE: AA (armée de l'air) BA 200 Apt

After disbanding the base was taken over by the French Foreign Legion.becoming the current Foreign Legion Quartier Koenig
- 2e Régiment étranger de génie / 2 REG (2 FL Engineers Regt) Unit under 27e BIM (27th Mtn Bde) command and trained for urban combat and combat in difficult territiory under all weather conditions.
2e REG is appx 1000 military strong in 3 combat engineer companies, 1 support coy, 1 cmd and log coy and 1 admin and base coy.

Some facilities have been converted to operate as an intercept point for DSGE Echelon SIGINT purposes SEE: SIGINT St Christol
