Missile storage area at the Mutlanger Heide north of Schwäbisch Gmünd was the Pershing-II-depot of 1st Batn 41st FA.
Pershing II was only operated by the US-Forces as part of NATO. The US-Army had 3 Pershing-II bataillons, as part of 56th Field Artillery Command Schwäbisch Gmünd. One of each battery of a batallion was alway on CAS (combat alert status) alert at one of these sites:
-Inneringen ("Ft Blackjack"), about 13k's north of Sigmaringen at 48° 10' 39" N, 9° 17' 17" O, 1st Bataillon 41. Field Arty Regt.
-Lehmgrube ("Von Steuben") at Kettershausen, about 9k's east of Illertissen at 48° 12' 34" N, 10° 14' 36" O, 1st Bataillon 81. Field Arty Regt.
-Waldheide ("Camp Redleg"), east of Heilbronn at 49° 7' 44" N, 9° 16' 30" O, 3rd 84. Field Arty Regt.
