Former Romanian Deveselu airbase. Reactivated as a NATO base May 12, 2016
Romania and the US agreed to base land based S(tandard) M(issile)-3 ballistic missile interceptors at Deveselu airbase to counter a possible Iranean nuclear armed ballistic missile threat. Here's the actual situation!
The faciity is being operated by US Navy personnel as it concerns the USN Aegis missile system in ground based configuration.
A similar agreement between the US and Poland (NATO SM-3 interceptors) and Turkey (NATO missile radars) entered into force.

NATO BMD build-up:
- Turkey hosts a US BMD radar at Kürecik;
- Romania hosts an Aegis Ashore site at Deveselu Airbase
- Germany hosts the command centre at Ramstein Airbase;
- Poland hosts another Aegis Ashore site at Redzikowo military base;
- Additionally, NATO may deploy multi-mission BMD-capable frigates.
