Former RAFGermany Gütersloh, ICAO: ETUO was the nearest RAF base to the former East/West German border. The airfield was constructed by the Germans prior to WW2, captured by US Army in april 1945 and handed over to RAF in june 1945 as Headquarters No. 2 Grp RAF.
During RAFG history the base was home of the English Electric Lightning F2/F2A interceptor forces (19 and 2 Sqn 1968 until 1976); then It was home of the BAe Harriers in various variants (3 and 4 Sqn 1976 until 1989). After the Harriers left, Gütersloh became a helicopter base (18 Sqn with Boeing Chinooks and 230 Sqn with Puma HC1's until 1994).

Following the withdrawal by RAFG in 1994, the base was handed over to BFG army and became the Princess Royal Barracks.
