Takoradi (joint mil/civ) airfield. ICAO: DGTK.
Former Air Force Base Takoradi, started as Air Force Station Takoradi in March 1961 as a Chipmunk Basic Trainingr Aircraft base.
As the Station expanded, 2 operational squadrons were established in addition to the Flying Training School. No 1 Sqn operated the DHC-2 Otter aircraft, while No 2 Sqn operated the twin engine DHC-4 Caribou aircraft. Later the autonomous No 1 Maintenance Unit, which was responsible for the procurement and storage of all aircraft spares, was established at the Station.
The first Commanding Officer of the Air Force Station Takoradi was Wing Commander Everson of the Royal Air Force (RAF).
Command of the station remained with RAF officers until February 1968 when Wing Commander C Beausoleil took over as the first Ghanaian Station Commander.
Currently te airfield is used by military as well as civilian flights.
