RAAF Williamtown is a main fighter pilot training base and homebase of the tactical fighter element of the Air Combat Group (ACG) operating 71x F/A-18A/B Hornet strike aircraft. They will be replaced by 72x fifth-generation F-35A aircraft as of 2018

Williamtown is also home of the Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) element of Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group (SRG) operating 6x E-7A Wedgetail AEWC aircraft which are based on the 737-700 airframe
