Mannheim is currently part of the new US Armed Forces Rheinland-Pfalz garrison http://www.rp.army.mil/
Former Mannheim garrison consisted of: Coleman Army Airfield, Coleman, Sullivan. Funari, Spinelli, Taylor and Turley Barracks and the Benjamin Franklin Village housing facility. Exept for Coleman Barracks all have been deactivated and closed.
Currently the only existing remaining Mannheim unit is
- Coleman Barracks which reroled to European Activity Set (EAS) and is now an Army Prepositioned Stock (APS) site http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zee2gMyV8K4 where vehicles and equipment receive depot level maintenance and a complete reset. After that they are staged, stored and ultimately issued back to US Army combat brigades in Europe.
The decision to keep Coleman Bcks operational has been taken after the 2014 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the US was forced to scramble for facilities to accommodate a rejuvenated USAREUR mission and currently there are some 20,000 pieces of equipment stored at Coleman.
US Army has also set up an APS network in several European countries.
