This is a high-security USAF airbase which officially doesn't exist(!) and probably the technical development center for new military aircraft. It is a known fact that the Lockheed U-2, SR-71 and F-117 aircraft have been developed and tested at this site.

The base is located within the Nevada Test and Training Range and remains a common destination for Janet, a small fleet of passenger aircraft operated on behalf of the USAF to transport military personnel, primarily to and from McCarran International Airport.

The US government provides minimal information regarding Groom Lake or Area 51. The area surrounding the lake is permanently off-limits to both civilian and normal military air traffic. Security clearances are checked regularly; cameras and weaponry are not allowed. Even military pilots training in the NAFR risk disciplinary action if they stray into the exclusionary "box" surrounding Groom's airspace. Surveillance is supplemented using buried motion sensors and contractors in unidentifyable uniforms.

Area 51 has become focus of UFO and modern conspiracy theories due to its secretive nature.
