Former Northwood Hq Allied Command Channel (ACCHAN) was operational from 1952 to 1994 and tasked to defend the sea areas and allied shipping around the English Channel in case of WW3..

Currently Northwood is a military HQ facility of the British Armed Forces adjacent to the London suburb of Northwood and home to
- HQ Strategic Command (former Joint Forces Cmd) coordinates allocated joint capabilities from all armed services.
- Permanent Joint HQ an interservice Hq from where all overseas military operations are planned and controlled.
- Multinational HQ coordinating command of European Union military operations.
- Commander Operations Rpyal Navy exercises operational command of all national maritime operations on behalf of the Fleet Commander.
- HQ NATO Allied Maritime Command, the central command of all NATO maritime forces

Supporting units
-- Joint Support Unit Northwood, providing admin support, life support, facilities and supplier management.
