9. NIKE Turner area

The Turner Air Defense area was established when USAF Strategic Air Command based B-52 Stratofortress intercontinental bombers at Turner AFB in 1958. The 2 Nike-Hercules batteries provided air defense and were manned by Regular Army units. The above-ground sites remained active until 1974. #T-28 Sylvester.
