Former AFB Columbia Falls. AN/FPS-118 (RX) Over The Horizon Backscatter (OTH-B) radar. http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/systems/images/othb-bangor.jpg A prototype system, operating in the 5 to 28 MHz band. Was installed on the eastern seaboard of the USA in the late 1970s. It was a bistatic system with the transmit site located at Moscow Air Force Station, Maine and the receive site some 160 km away at Columbus Falls Air Force Station also in Maine. AFS closed and system deactivated.
