Rygge air station hosts the Norwegian Air Force http://forsvaret.no/fakta/tjenestesteder/rygge
The base has been upgraded in 2016 to accommodate large US aircraft as a part of the European Deterrence Initiative.
Future:
In order to reduce the air stations around the capital, the Norwegian government decided to deactivate Rygge air station in due course.
The 717 Sq DA-20's will be relocated at Gardermoen AS.
The 720 Sq Bell 412's will be relocated at Bardufoss AS where 720 and 339 Squadrons will be merged.
